Dedicated to the general sights, news and funny happenings all around the world
I went to my friends place and I was fine there, it was after that that all hell broke loose. I got lost going back home, ending up in Lasalle going towards Amherstburg I think, just not in the right direction to get back to Windsor. I pulled over and this nice gentleman and his fiance gave me directions but for some reason I did the total opposite to what he told me to do. He proceeded to follow me sensing that something was not right and I pulled over again and he said to me, follow me I will get you home. In the mean time my temperature was extremely high and I did not know that. I knew that I felt warm and I had had a headache for the last few days. As I was following him I proceeded to pass him instead of following him, why??? I don know. I believe that I was getting deeper and deeper into the extreme Heat Stroke stage. After I passed Adel he lost me momentarily on Walker Road where I pulled onto a side street once again and pulled over again, why?? I dont know. The gentleman found me and asked me if he could plse drive me home. At this point I said yes,
to please do so. As I was going around the van I fell. This GOOD SAMARITAN (ADEL from A1 AUTO GLASS) got me home safe and sound. He asked to talk to one of my kids as I seemed totally lost. Both my sons came downstairs. Tim, my youngest son, got me in the elevator and he said that I was falling over and had no balance. When he saw that I was lost and could not answer some of his questions, he called an Ambulance and they took me to the hospital. My temperature in the ambulance was 41.5 which is well over 104-105 I think. They tried everything to try and get it to come down and it did not want to come down and my headache was getting worse. They did a number of blood tests, ECG, EKG, and they did a Brain Scan as they were worried some damage might have been done but those results all cam back NEGATIVE meaning that all was good with the brain scan....good results....this made me so happy. Thus, after all of
these tests, they came to the conclusion that I was suffering from EXTREME HEAT STROKE.
We are thinking that this all started on Saturday night when we went to the races and I did not have a hat on all evening, then on Sunday I went out again to the Legion to the Canada Day Dance and no doubt over exerted myself, however, I did not stay long tho as I was not feeling all that great and my head was killing me. So the Dr. gave me a bag of
intravenous and when it came to the second one I asked if I could go home. I am still feeling week and drained but it will take a couple days to get back to normal. Sorry this is so long but I wanted to fill all my amazing friends and family of what just happened to me.
I had an angel on my should because I could have had a major accident and killed myself or someone else. Had it not been for my Good Samaritan Adel and the angel on my shoulder I might not be here right now sending this to all of you. I also want to thank everyone for all the prayers and good thoughts. Again, I am sorry for it being so lengthy. I love ALL of you very much. Needless to say, this was a very scary event, today I am feeling tired and
drained, but that is ok. I AM OK
On Friday while the recycling was being picked up in our neighbourhood, I ran out to put some last minute things out, as the truck came to my house. A very kind and friendly man emptied my recycling bins wishing me a good day, and continued on. I was wishing I had a cold drink to give to him on this hot day. My 11 year old son at the time was cutting a neighbours grass at the corner and came home with a big Gatorade. I asked oh, that from the neighbor? No, it was from the guy in the recycling truck!
Thank you, thank you that was a very kind thing for you to do.
I will pay it forward.
Hi everyone, my friends car was involved in a hit and run on Lemier in Tecumseh tonight around 10:20. The car that hit hers was a black Dodge Caliber and definitely has damage to the front end and drivers side (most likely white paint transfer on it as well). Police have been notified and a report has been made, please share this with people you know and make contact if you have any helpful information! Thank you
While enjoying the day at Belle River Beach on Friday, July 6, 2018, I witnessed a man approach our area with his flip phone tucked into his waist, visible over his shirt. I could see the phone was flipped open and the camera pointing towards the outside. He stood there for a moment then made his way through the picnic tables where a large group of children from a day camp took over every table there. He noticed me walking towards him then started to leave. I confronted him and asked if he was video taping my child and EVERYONE else there. He nonchalantly shook his head and looked down at the ground. I alerted the staff there who were able to confirm the mans name as Doug who resides at the Green Acres motel down the road. The man left on his bicycle. I contacted OPP who came almost immediately to patrol the area. Please note that the staff made a comment that this Doug is there a lot. So please if you see this predator report him. I wish I would have grabbed his phone and smashed it to the ground. His description: approx 50 yrs old, skinny build, approx 5'6, wearing light green baggy shirt, shorts, Grey hat, scruffy facial hair, brown/ Grey hair, bicycle with a mount or something on the back. I didn't have my phone with me to take a picture. One other witness said he saw the man over at the park near the marina earlier. Watch out so this creep doesn't come around your children!
So, on Monday i was dricimg headed west on tecumseh east when I noticed a gentleman in a motorized wheelchair who was stuck in the rut between the road and the sidewalk trying to cross the intersection near the tim hortons. I was surprised by the people driving by/ around him and walking past him. I pulled over into the parking lot to see if he was ok. At the same time another gentleman was walking over to help with his little dog and we were able to get him onto the sidewalk.
Long story slightly less long, buddy was just about out of juice and kept getting stuck when his chair required a little more umph to get through the dips in the intersections from sidewalk to road and back up again.
After getting him onto the sidewalk, he said he was ok. I then got back in my car and started to head back down tecumseh when I noticed he got stuck in the next intersection. I pulled over again. We did this a few times before I finally pulled him back onto the sidewalk and said we had to figure something else out. He wasn't going too far, several blocks maybe but we had no way to get him and his chair into my SUV and it was for sure too far for me to push it all that way as everyone knows those chairs are quite heavy lol. I asked if he knew which cab company was accessible. He said checker cab but he didn't have much cash on him. With no other option I called checker but the driver who he usually calls was off and sonwe called the main line. I explained the situation to them. I told them i'd be happy to prepay the fare to the location he was going to on my credit card. They said they didn't do that. Assuming that the reason for that was because they didn't have the ability to guesstimate what the fare would total to, I said that was fine, I'd be happy to wait for the cab, help get him loaded and then follow him home and I'd pay with my card once he got there. They wouldn't allow for this either. They said I had to ride inside the cab with this gentleman and pay when we got to his destination. I tried to explain that my car was on tecumseh with my four-ways on and couldn't just leave it there and it was too far to walk back and it seemed kind of stupid to me to pay for a cab back to my vehicle. The girl I spoke with was unphased. So i asked if there was another cab company I could call. She said I could call Vet. Are they accessible? No. THEN HOW DOES THAT HELP ME!?!? So finally I was like so you're just going to leave him stranded in the middle of tecumseh? Yes that's not our problem . So I politely thanked them for being absolutely no help and with no other option left, called the WPS non-emergency number. I felt bad because I realize that's not what they usually do, but I didn't know what else to do for him and I couldn't just leave him. After trying several avenues herself, the lady-officer finally got ahold of Handi-Transit and they were there within 15 minutes (shoutout to WPS and Handi-Transit for that).
Afterwards, I spoke to a friend who works at an assisted living place very similar to the one this gentleman was headed home to. She explained that this is a common occurrence, where companies; namely, Checker Cab are leaving people stranded with no way home and no option to get there. Someone else told me that Checker is employed or partly employed by the city to offer these services? I'm not sure if that is true or accurate but if it is, it's an area of services that desperately needs to be revisited. I don't expect them to work for free but when I'm there and willing to cover the cost and they can't even try to work something out because they can't be bothered, It makes me angry. I can't underatand why people who are on a severely fixed income most times are left stranded in the middle of the city with nobody to help them and no alternative city-provided service to come get them should something happen.
I was disheartened to see Checker so blaise, and dare I say annoyed with the situation. They acted as if they were the ones who'd been stranded or had spent the last hour (after having gone paddle boarding and were dripping wet still) trying to help a frustrated gentleman with no support resources to contact. The poor guy was a bit ornery with me lol but getting a glimpse into what he has to deal with on a daily basis, I honestly don't even blame him. I guess I expected more compassion from Checker considering they're in the business of helping people get around who require special access. Or at the very least, a little common courtesy would have gone a long way.
It's my understanding that they are often paid at the end of the fare by someone else who isn't the customer so I don't get why they gave me such a hard time. The whole situation just baffles me. This is a service sorely lacking and if I were the city and i did have a contract with Checker Cab, I would seriously be re-evaluating that relationship. My next plan is to contact the city tomorrow and file an actual complaint if they do indeed have a working relationship. Anyone who has any information or could direct me to a point of contact would be greatly appreciated & lt;3
Sorry if the post is long, it was a long day.
Thank you in advance,
(For funsies, I'm adding a pic from their site showing cab parked on sidewalk at jackson park just for stuffs and giggles and to show how awesome they are! :D)
I want to give a shout out to a women who I assume is another mom at TD Devonshire Mall earlier today for being so sweet and speaking up for me. If you are this women, thank you. I went to deposit money and noticed there was a little bit of a mix up with the amount. After putting in the money I pulled over to the side with my 3 and 1 year old kids to text my husband and confirm the amount that I had deposited. Little did I know my 3 yr old is licking the bars that make the lineup at the bank. I am aware of this as an older man starts shouting out "that's disgusting". Once I realize what my son has done I stop him and tell him "ew thats yucky don't lick it." The man however continues 2 more times loudly to mention how disgusted he is about my son licking the bar that it gets everyone in the bank's attention. At which point a lady who I assume is a mother herself who probably understands kids and their behaviours also waiting in line, tells him how I'm the mother handling it and that it's just a kid doing something that shouldn't offend him that much. Thank you. I was so confused and shocked about how much of a scene this man made that I never got a chance to respond to him but most importantly thank you for "having my back". I obviously would never let my son lick the bars but in that split second he did.
