To the woman in the Petsmart Parking lot

Here's what you knew:

You saw me get out of my car to walk into the store, leaving my baby in the backseat. You must have been mortified or something, to call the cops. What kind of mother does that?

Here's what you DIDN'T know:

My child was sleeping. And she HATES being taken out/ put in to her car seat. She would have screamed if woken up and taken into the store, only to go back into the car seat moments later. I would have likely gotten many dirty looks, and even strangers unneeded opinions on how my child is 'probably' tired.

While you told the cops I was gone for 10 minutes, you were in fact very off. Why did you lie? I assume that you 'guessed' at that time. Makes sense, I mean most people would assume that when a person walks into a store they're going in to shop and buy something. However I was not. If I was, I would have brought my child in with me. I walked in to snap a picture of something my husband was interested in purchasing and walked out. I was gone less than 5 minutes... and when I came out, you were NOT there.

My baby weighs in at almost 30lbs. She's OVER the 100th percentile for weight. On top of that, I have a very bad back and need to go to the chiropractor and massage therapist 2 times a week. I'm also not covered for these visits so you can imagine the cost adds up rather quickly. If I can avoid picking my child up when I'm hurting, I do that.

I'm currently horribly sick with a nasty cold. So simply going out to run errands seems like a nightmare, but I do it anyway because these things need to get done.

Help? My husband works full time and both my parents are dead. My in-laws are in another country and other family members live hours away. So help is something I do not have.

So thank you. Thank you for ruining my day, wasting a police officers time and being ignorant to the facts. I suppose if you saw someone filling their car with gas, walk in to the store to pay, all with their child in the back seat of the car you'd see that as a problem too? Because I walked in and out of that store in LESS time it takes to do that. Maybe I'm wrong, but is that a crime? It shouldn't be. And when talking to other mothers, they confessed to me they do this all the time.

So don't worry. We won't go out anymore. Going to the library for story time? Can't risk someone calling the cops because I put my child in the car first (rather than her crawling around the house unattended) and then packed up our things. Baby swim time? Nope. I've eliminated all of the risks and in doing so... all of the fun too. So now my baby crawls around in the living room, looking rather bored. But hey, she's at least 'safe' in her over protective bubble. I'm sure she thanks you for that... since I know she's really going to miss swimming. We also go into the yard and play in the snow. She is loving the snow. Hopefully no one will see problems with this and ruin that for us too.

Being a mom is a tough job, but one of the things that makes it so is people who have little to no compassion or understanding. I ask that next time you consider the facts, or approach that mother personally if something is bothering you. I'm a kind person and would have respected that... rather than the unnecessary events that took place that day.

Hello,

Someone came into my dad's home and stole about 6-8 vintage superhero Barbie's that were for my 5 year old niece. The were all still in the
It original boxes. Please look out and contact me if you have witnessed anyone with or selling these. A police report has been filed.

The Barbie's include batgirl, superman etc.

Thank you so much!!!

cute EMS at timmies on Feb 15th

To start my day off I was already having a bad morning. It's family day and my son's birthday but had to go to work. My son wasn't to happy about that.
When I saw you and 2 other EMS come in while I was sitting there trying to enjoy my coffee you smiled at me. Then everytime I looked up you'd smile at me again. Not only were you cute but had one hell of a smile on you :) You got me to smile and it made my day better.
I am just like you guys out on the road everyday saving lives or helping out people that need the help. I love my job and was upset I had to work today but after this morning for some reason it lifted my spirits up and realize that it's not so bad. My boys will understand why I work so much one day but as long as they are taken care of that's all that matters.

Thank you for making my day better :)

Good (Samaritans) and Not So Good (Checker cab) Spotting

This afternoon my Mom and I were coming out of On the Dark Side on Tecumseh. As we were heading to my car, we saw 2 men helping out a guy in a power wheelchair. The wheelchair didn't have enough battery left to get him up curbs so he was stuck on the road. Thankfully, as a nurse I was aware how to go from the power to manual function...so we went over to give them a hand. Once we got him up on the side walk we were able to talk with the guy who we learned was "Rick". Rick told us that he lived in an assisted living home on St.Luke but they won't come to help. I asked Rick who he normally deals with to get rides to which he asked us if we could call Checker Cab because they are wheelchair accessible. I called him a cab then my mom and I stayed with him until it arrived. We talked with Rick and learned some things about him.

Once the cab arrived we could instantly tell that the driver was not very friendly. We helped the driver push the wheelchair up the ramp into the cab. I then said "bye Rick it was really nice meeting you". The cab driver instantly snapped at us and began to degrade us for calling him. We explained to him that we were trying to do something nice and we did not know Rick. He told us that he was driving him but would leave him at the curb, then told us next time call a medical transport company (not in an informative way, very rudely). We went to walk away and the driver starting yelling asking us who has money for the ride.

I was so angry.. once I got in my car I realized that I couldn't go home knowing he was going to be left at the curb, so I put Rick's address into my gps and drove there. Once we got there, sure enough Rick was at the curb and the cab was pulling away. My mom and I then helped him into the building. Thankfully Rick has ALSO support in his building. We talked to Rick about how rude rhe cab driver was to make sure that Rick was okay, but it didn't phase him...he said "well that's how it is", which saddens me because it's clear that he's used to being treated poorly.

At the end of all this, we are content knowing that Rick was warm and would make it to his apartment safe. So I'd like to spot the following people:

1) the two men that helped Rick when they saw him stuck on the road... you are truly amazing! If you ever come across a stuck power wheelchair I hope you remember about the manual function ;-)

2) the arrogant Checker Cab driver. Yes I understand you have rules amd liabilities (helping people from your cab to their door)..but your approach was unacceptable! I hope you never develop a mental health or physical disability where you will need the support of people!

3) my mom for helping Rick, keeping me calm when I became so angry at the cab driver, and going with the flow when I decided I needed to go to Rick's address

4) our Canadian health care system & ODSP for failing people with mental health and physical disabilities. Rick really needs a new wheelchair for his dignity, independence, safety, and impairments. Stop sending him in circles through the process!!!

Valentine's missed connection??

To the handsome man who smiled at me twice today at Dollarama. Had I not been on my way to work, I would have tried to find an excuse to say hello. Instead, all I could do was smile back. I hope you have a great Valentine's day! Thanks for making me smile. I hope we run into each other again ;-)

(If by some stretch of Valentine's day luck, you get wind of this post....reply with the location and a distinguishing feature about yourself.)

Awesome Costco Workers

Yesterday my Father, Daughter and Brother went shopping at Costco. On their way out, my Dad had a seizure. Many people helped. Workers and complete strangers. They made a terrible situation a bit easier.. from talking with my family, to blocking off the parking lot for the ambulance once again, thank you. You have all been spotted!
