Closure of Our Lady of Assumption Parish - November 3, 2014

The Pastoral Council and church members at Our Lady of Assumption Parish are working hard to save this historic location as we just received notice that the church is expected to close in November 2014 due to an inability to pay for well-needed restorations. Whether you are Catholic or not, we need your support. Whether you live in Windsor or not, we need your support. Whether you think you can help or not, we need YOUR support!

At this time, our team is working to have Windsor's "Huron Church" declared a BASILICA, to recognize the layers of significance in the area, including the community, spiritual, historical, and cultural aspects. This building is the oldest building West of Montreal and hundreds of parishioners attend every single mass. We have a thriving community and closure of this building is not an option.

Please help us to spread the word by "liking" and "sharing" the Facebook page,

https:/ / www.facebook.com/ operationbasilica

and send in your donations (whether those are through money, time and/ or thoughts and prayers)! We need all the help we can get!

"This isn't about saving a building, it is about saving the history, present and future of our community."

Found gas can

Found a gas can on Sunday August 30, in the middle of the road on Howard Ave. (guessing it fell out / off of someone's vehicle!) Claim it by identifying the size of the gas can and approximate location on Howard!

Shopping while brown

I thought it would be nice to take my 2 children and their grandparents to the Harrow fair today, since I hadn't been in well over 10 yrs. It was a nice day a bit hot but we had a nice time, had something to eat, got on a few rides and saw the horses. As we were about to leave I thought maybe we could take on last walk down the vendor aisle (at gate 2) and see if we couldn't find something we might like to get. Should have just left and left it as a good day. We stopped at the first tent, it was a big pink one right on the corner selling jewellery. I found this very cute turtle necklace with a baby turtle on the back so I bought it right away. As we walked to the other end my son found a key chain he liked, I told the lady that I would get it and walked over to where my stroller was that had my purse hanging on the back of it all the while my son still standing there until I got back to pay. Got some money walked back and paid the lady, at this point my son started to walk over to his Grandma to show her his new key chain. Now we could not have been the only people who were picking things up and looking etc. Actually these were the only 2 things that we touched and I bought both of them. So why did the vendor either across from this tent selling t-shirts or the tent next to it feel the need to watch us? As my son was walking away I was still standing there admiring an owl necklace when I heard her say to the guy "That boy has one of you key chains and he didn't pay for it" the guy replies "Where!". Curious to see if it was my son she was talking about I look to see who she is pointing at and sure enough it was my son. Before I could even say anything he was already yelling at my son saying "Hey whatta doing with that!". In that moment I have never been so enraged and I lost it, standing directly in front of the guy I yelled right back at him "Its been paid for!!!" Then I look at the lady who accused my son and told her she should mind her own business next time. The lady that I paid come over right away and told they guy "No no she paid", I walk over to my son take the key chain walk back to the booth and demand my money back, forgetting that I also bought the necklace from them too I ask my M-I-L to remove it for me and I take it back and demand my money back for that one too. This guy then turns himself into the victim and says "I don't know why you're taking this out on me for" I said "You yelled at my son and accused him of stealing!" I can understand vendors looking out for one another, but they both could of handled this differently first the other vendor could have said "I'm not sure if that boy paid or not but he has one of your key chains" or something like that not "that boy has one of you key chains and he didn't pay for it". He could and should have handled it differently as well for one he should have asked my son if he paid for it and secondly he should have asked the other worker if she was knew that he had paid for it. Like I mentioned earlier we could not have been the only people who were touching and picking things up to look at, but it's very hard for me not to believe that this woman targeted my son because he was brown. So to these 2 people I want to say this....SHAME ON YOU!!!.Neither one of you's apologized to my son once you found out that he DIDN'T steal anything. I had to explain to my 10 yr old son that yes sometimes you will face this type of racism in life but we cannot let these kinds of people defeat us and that not every non-brown/ black person is like this. If you could have heard the sadness in my son's voice on the way home it would have broke your heart, so I hope your happy with yourselves jobs well done.
