To the men working sanitation on my street this Wednesday morning:
When you came to collect our waste, you were so friendly to my little girl, waving and honking. Thank you so much... She looks forward to seeing the truck come by each week, but today she's been talking about you non-stop and asking when the "big truck come back"?
Thank you for making her day a little more exciting!

I was sitting one afternoon back in July by the Edwin building on ouellette having a coffee with a young man I've been working with for over a year now. He has been through many struggles in his life with substance use, criminal charges and mental health issues. He was talking about turning his life around and making positive changes and better decisions. This woman was smoking outside the building, probably taking her break and over heard our conversation. It probably wasn't the best place to talk about his issues due to privacy but it felt like the right time to have a "heart to heart". This woman apologized for interrupting and provided some encouraging and supportive words to him. She said to him that everything I was saying was right and that he could do anything he put his mind to. I was extremely blown away by her courage to "butt in", most people are quick to judge and give nasty looks but this woman was extremely supportive and sweet to us. He thanked her for her kind words and so did I. To this woman, you have made a difference to him and I. I'll never forget that moment when a complete stranger turned into a social worker for 5 minutes.

On August 23, 2014, Chad Pillon was assaulted near his home in Windsor, ON and suffered severe head trauma. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he is currently in the ICU. After spending a week under a medically-induced coma, Chad is now awake. While he recognizes his family and is able to walk, he is still unable to speak. There's still bleeding and swelling on his brain but he is slowly getting better every day and it's hoped that his speech will eventually return. All of his family and friends are hoping for his full recovery.

Needless to say, they have a long road ahead of them, filled with uncertainty in so many ways. Chad's wife, Jenny, (our sister) is currently off work to spend as much time at the hospital as possible. In addition, she's trying to spend as much time as possible with their two sons.
We all know expenses can add up quickly and while there's not much else we can do right now, we would like to make sure the Pillons don't have to bear any unnecessary financial burdens during Chad's recovery. Their focus should be on getting Chad back to being the boisterous, fun-loving life-of-the-party Chaddy Daddy that we all know and love.

It's the second day of school for my 7 yr old who decided this morning she'd give me a rough time getting out of bed and ready. My 5 mth old barely slept threw the night and I thought my day would get worse. My husband is away so I'm pulling mommy and daddy duty. I dropped my child at school and headed for a wake Me up at Tim Hortons. I let a black suv with a woman go in front of me and that lady paid for my order. I've paid it forward a few times and never expected it to happen to me and I wanted to say thank you so much. You made my terrible start to the day a little bit better. It truly meant a lot.

To the school bus driver who BLEW through the stop sign at the corner of Bernard & Metcalfe at 8:30am on Wednesday, September 3rd- SLOW DOWN and PAY ATTENTION! I almost hit you and you didn't even blink. You were going so fast and I'm sure you didn't even know what you had done. Those are people's children you are responsible for!

I would like to thank some people that I have never met and can only identify by vehicle. You see yesterday (Tuesday) we laid our beautiful mother to rest and our procession had a lengthy drive from the funeral home to the cemetery. During that time we were greatly touched by all that stopped, pulled over and those who bowed their head in respect. We would also like to thank the workers and police at Howard and county road 8 who stood and removed their hats. You gave comfort to my father and we will never forget it. Thank you
