St. John the Divine Orthodox Church, 1094 Drouillard Rd., Windsor, ON
Please join us and help this very worthy cause. You can do this by:
1) coming out on November 1 and bringing items to pack one or more shoeboxes
2) if you can't attend but wish to pack one or more boxes, and you live locally, message me and I'll arrange to get you as many boxes as you need for your family or group as well as arrange for pickup
3) if you can't participate in either option, a donation, in the form of a cheque made out to St. John the Divine Orthodox Church, would be greatly appreciated. You will receive a tax deductible receipt.
Some suggestions are:
◾School Supplies - Items such as pencils, pens, pencil crayons, note pads, and picture books
◾Toys & Other Gifts - Items such as stuffed animals, small musical instruments, hair clips, toy jewelry, t-shirts, socks, and candy (loose, individually wrapped hard candy in a sealable bag)
◾Hygiene Items - Please place soap in a sealable bag
◾Personal Note - Include a personal note and/ or a photo in your shoebox
DO NOT INCLUDE:
◾Toothpaste (due to customs regulations)
◾Food and any chewy, crumbly, or soft candy: Including gum (due to customs regulations)
◾Used items (due to customs regulations)
◾Playing cards (other card games such as UNO are allowed)
◾Liquids or items that could leak, melt, freeze, or break - Shampoo, creams, lip balm, bath gels, mirrors, or glass, etc. (these can damage other items in the shoe box).
◾Items that can scare or harm a child - War-related toys, knives, and toy guns, etc.
◾Using a backpack instead of a shoe box is problematic because it creates unfair circumstances at distribution events. Backpacks can also cause problems when cartons are being packed, and when shipments are going through Customs.
We are calling upon all men, women, and children in the community to help fill a record 200 shoeboxes!!! Bring your items and pack as many boxes as you wish AND/ OR bring items to share and pack as a community assembly line effort! Anyway you want!!! Just come on out!!!
Please feel free to share this invite :)

I spotted a young couple arguing in front of my house this evening, in the area of Gladstone and Ellis. The girl was no older than 16, and she was screaming with her boyfriend, who appeared a few years older than her, screaming that she could not go back to his house. She was pulling on his wrist, trying to pull him in the opposite direction, screaming and dead set against going back to his house. They were walking down Ellis Ave, in the direction of Moy, Hall and Parent. I went outside to ask if everything was ok, and the boyfriend apologized, and said that he was just trying to get home. The girl ignored me, and continued to plead with him, saying that she couldn't go back to his house, and that she had no where else to go. I stood in my driveway, watching and listening, because I wasn't sure what this argument was about. The boyfriend agreed to sit on the curb with her, and she appeared to calm down, so I went back inside. I continued to watch from the window, and saw him leave her sitting on the curb. I went outside again to try and talk to her and see if she was ok. She said she couldn't go back to her parents house because her mom was "messed up", and I am concerned for her because if in her mind, staying on the street was a better option than going back to her boyfriends house, then my feeling is that something bad happened there. My gut feeling was that she was afraid and completely alone. I asked if there was anyone I could call for her, but she said no, and she walked away in the same direction as her boyfriends house.
She said her name was BAILEY, and she had dark hair tied in a loose bun. She was wearing grey sweat pants and a black sweatshirt and a bright neon pink backpack. If anyone sees her in the Ottawa, Tecumseh, Parent, Walker border, please contact police and let them know. I have contacted them already to inform them of this situation, and to check in on her if they see her. If you see her walking around, she may not have a place to go.

What's wrong with people today!!
After work today I stopped by Food Basics downtown. As I was heading to my car, I saw a man loading groceries in the back of his work van. He had a toddler in the cart, and another child about 4 or 5 in the front passenger seat of the van. I looked in the van and saw there were only two seats and then a cage separating the front seats from the back of the van. There were No other seats in the van. I sat and watched as he put the toddler in the front of the van, standing in between the seats. Then he closed up the back doors got in and drove away. What were you thinking. I understand that may be your only way to get your groceries, using that business van, and I bet you do that quite regularly as those two children looked quite used to travelling that way in that van. I called the police and reported you, and provided the licence number, a full description of the van, you and your two children. I will also be contacting that business advertised on that van and lodging a complaint against you.
Please people, only bring children along with you if you have the proper and safe car seats. Children are wayyyyyyyyy to precious to take such chances. If you were involved in a collision, what do you think would happen to those babies??????? Chance your own life if you must, but dont chance someone elses, let alone your trusting and loving children. They depend on you to keep them safe....I didnt approach the man as I was alone and unsure of his reaction towards me. If I was a younger person I most certainly would have approached him.
To the boy who found my mothers phone and was honest enough to answer and return it. My mom lost her phone Sunday the past weekend. She never really noticed until I came over and asked why she wasn't replying to my messages. We looked everywhere and had no luck. She remembers having it last when she went shopping. I sent a bunch of messages but none were going through which means likely the phone was off. Finally, Yesterday I get a reply on my phone stating yes they found it and it was dead so they had to charge it. I am going to let you read the messages back and forth with Derek and thank him again on here for being such an amazing kid. I ended up buying him a gift card to walmart since he wouldn't tell me what he wanted. This boy was only 15 and had enough respect for other peoples property that he took it from a friend who said they should sell it. Thanks again Derek my mom is so thankful, your parents have done everything right.
We worked the election on Monday and a wonderful couple whom we just met Bob and Karen Ryan , brought us all in coffee and Tim Bits. Thank you so much for that wonderful gesture. I will be sure to pay it forward in some way.
