Dedicated to the general sights, news and funny happenings all around the world
I'll start this with - I am an immigrant. I received my Permanent Resident status in 2014 and passed my citizenship test last month. I am just waiting for my ceremony date now.
I've gotten to know Windsor over these last 5 years fairly well and don't think anyone ever tells you how wonderful you really are. Carousel of Nations? I'm in love with it. All of the festivals along the river? Summer is always entertaining! Art in the Park in Walkerville? I never miss it! Downtown on the weekends? I'm a bit old for that but I love seeing so many people out having a great time!
I can see Windsor is going through some things. Unemployment, low wages, high housing costs, rising river levels that will likely never go back down, manufacturing struggling, sure, Rose City is having a rough spot. That's why I feel the need to tell you this.
I love you, Windsor. You're beautiful. You're interesting. You're a delight. In these last 5 years I've traveled to a lot of places in Canada in order to better get to know my new country and am always proud to tell people Windsor is my home.
On October 8, 2019 aroind 130 in the afternoon i witnessed a No Frills employee assisting and carrying a visually impared gentlemancs groceries cross Wyandotte to the west bound Crosstown 2 bus stop. I just wanted to say thst it was great to see an employee go to such an extreme to assist their clients.
The Leamington Fire Hall will be open for visitors on Wednesday, October 9, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM as we celebrate #FirePreventionWeek. Stop in for a visit to see the firefighters at work, take a tour and look at some of the equipment. There will be lots of treats for the kids!
I work in the medical field. An older lady booked her appointment by phone, but asked which buses she needs to take to get here. We gave her transit Windsor's number. Appointment day: she walks in with young lady named Ruth who is a University student. She met her at the bus stop and heard her saying how she was afraid of taking the wrong bus. Ruth decided to accompany her to be sure she made it safely! What an awesome, caring young woman. You were certainly raised right! Thank you!
I have had two very random and creepy notes left in my car door handle. Both times this has happened, it was super late at night in large parking lots so I wanted to write this post to inform and make people aware that this may be some type of distraction. The first time this happened it was early September around 10pm, second time was late September around 12am. Both notes mentioned that my feet were nice and they said they took photos. Just a little weirded out by this, was wondering if anyone had any similar occurrences happen to them.. thanks
On Friday Oct. 4th at 3:45 PM on Tecumseh Road East in front of Avenue Pawn Shop I was arriving at work and our building is across the street from the pawn shop. I drive a big Ram and it does not fit in our parking lot so I am forced to park across the busy Tecumseh Road. There is no crosswalk close by or stop lights so I have to cross when I can(usually run). But this very kind woman saw me standing in the middle of the turn lane and stopped her vehicle blocking dozens of cars in her lane to allow me to cross. Little did you know the the reason I did not run in front of you even though I had plenty of time to safely do so is because I went through surgery a few days prior and cannot over exercise while the "tube" remains inside me. So I'd like to thank you for being one of the few people who care in this city. Also to the people who see this that were behind her, I apologize for taking my time to cross but the lane next to you did not feel they should be nice and wait for 5 seconds of their life. So I could not cross until it was clear. But thank you for being patient as well! I paid it forward later in the day while driving the company car. THANK YOU.
Please can children be reminded or instill in them to open their minds and hearts to others?
On a morning walk, came across a young student not in school. Briefly, she said she was having a difficult time with the kids (she changed schools). I spoke a few words of encouragement, and offered to talk more.
I'm omitting a lot of details of this event/ dialogue because it's not necessary. The importance is that we take care of each other; especially the young ones who have so much life to live.
My heart hurts for her still, and I really hope for the better...
Thank you to the woman who shows her patience & generosity to the j& j Lepera workers in heritage park... most people are angry with construction and then you have the ones in the community that love to give to others.
