Please Help !!! I had my house broken into on Friday January 10th. I live on Lillian Avenue near Erie Street. As of this moment I've "only" noticed a few things missing, but I'm still busy checking :( My two cameras - one is an Olympus E520, (large black camera) and my smaller Fujifilm FinePix F10, 6.3 Mega Pixels (silver) were taken, but more importantly - two irreplaceable pieces of jewellery. My deceased fathers ring - a gold ring (looks silver from years of wear) with a larger diamond in the middle, surrounded with 3 or 4 smaller diamonds on each side - I believe my dads name was engraved (ERIK) . Also a necklace my dad gave me before he passed away. It's a gold necklace with a pendant in the shape of a small glass ball. Inside it has a floating diamond. It's very unique. The two pieces of jewellery are irreplaceable to me. They are the ONLY two keepsakes I have as a reminder of my dad. I can't describe how heartbroken I am, that you would take these from me. - For what ?? - For you to buy crack?? The sentimental value they have to me, far outweighs any street value they would have for you. To me they meant everything.
I've been unemployed for a year now and as you probably noticed when you broke into my house I don't have a pot to p... in. You took the only things that meant anything to me. The reminders of my dad, and my wedding present - the camera. You smashed my door which I will now have to replace, - as you probably noticed I really didn't need that added expense either. Things are tough enough for me as they are.
If anyone comes across any of the stolen items - in particular my fathers ring and my necklace, please let me know.

While eating dinner at Casey's tonight, there was a couple with two children having dinner right next to us. One child around 3, other looked to be 9-10 months old. The 3 year old girl was acting silly and playing around, (like most 3 year olds do at restaurants) the "Father" got pissed off, leaned over, and smacked her upside her head, very hard. I felt like I was going to be sick to my stomach..the little girl started crying and the "Mother" did nothing. I wanted so badly to tell him he should be ashamed of himself, hitting a child so hard for being a child. Shame on you, you worthless coward. How dare you put your hands on your child that way. Makes me scared for those children.
You've been spotted.

Amazing and caring healthcare providers at what I will always refer to as "Met Hospital" Emergency. It is a mother's worst nightmare when your 11 year old daughter is so emotionally troubled that she no longer wants to live. After a very difficult night, I brought her into Met Emerg this morning and initially saw Triage nurse Mike. What an amazing guy! Not only did he quickly assess the situation, he did everything he could to talk with her and make her comfortable, then took us right to a quiet room away from the waiting room. We were then helped by Social Worker Crystal from the Regional Children's Centre. What an awesome rapport she had with my daughter and spent hours talking with her trying to understand what lead an 11 year old to feel so depressed and hopeless. We will still have a long road ahead, but it was so comforting to have the help of such wonderful people today. Thank you! Signed a Mom who felt completely helpless but so positive now!

The public trust is being violated regularly behind a veil of SECRECY.
Scam artists use the name "non-profit" to mislead people and are usually NOT registered as a charity.
Many people don't recognize the signs of a bad rescue.
Bad rescues will try to put themselves out there as though they are "good", unfortunately many people find out the hard way. After they've been scammed, mislead, harassed, threatened, stalked, slandered, emotionally and mentally abused, when all they were trying to do was help an animal in need. These corrupt people use vulnerable animals who have no voice to take advantage of generous communities seeking to help!

We're not trying to make it harder for the honest rescues, that's why we're asking those in the field and in our communities to help us make changes that will also improve their situation and raise awareness.
If we want to stop crime, the law needs to apply to EVERYONE!
Right now there's so many loopholes and criminals are running amuck everywhere and hindering the honest rescues.
Pocketing and misusing funds that should have gone to animals. If there's misuse of funds chances are there will be animal abuse or neglect, because those kinds of people don't have a conscience or integrity.
They are taking away support and money that would have gone to help honest rescues!
Unfortunately their abusive behavior continues because there's no bylaws to regulate it.

THE SOLUTION:
We believe that ANYONE asking for donations from the public should be:
Step 1. REQUIRED to REGISTER as a "Charity".
Step 2. REQUIRED to be Transparent and Accountable for ALL donations and their Behavior.
Step 3. REQUIRED to have ALL Financial Records Available to the PUBLIC AT ALL TIMES.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to Protect Animals and Our Communities and fix the loopholes!
Let us come together and urge each and every "Unregistered Rescue" to Register as a Charity and to follow the three step requirements!
PLEASE take the TIME, to stop the CRIME!

REGISTERING INFO:
Many people have been wrongly informed that it costs a lot of money to register their rescue and then decide not to register based on that.
Anyone can call the Charities Directorate at: 1-800-267-2384 to register as a Charity.
**FACT** THERE'S NO COST TO REGISTER AS A "CHARITY" AND YOU CAN APPLY AT ANY TIME.

There are many benefits to registering a rescue...
They will be able to give tax receipts and MORE people will be willing to donate (which means more help and more lives saved!!), they can also sign up for contests that only Registered Charities can enter and win prizes etc. It's a Win Win situation!

Will YOU Help us in this endeavor?

Together WE can make change HAPPEN!
