The Waitress Who Opened My Eyes

It was December 31, 2015. My family and I had attended church and in the mass the priest asked us to reflect on our year...I didn't have to do that for very long until I burst out into tears. My 2015 was just a hard year... and the challenges for 2016 I was not looking forward to. Needless to say after mass I was not in the mood to go anywhere. My husband and my daughter convinced me to go out for supper. So we stopped in Boston pizza (tecumseh location) and to my surprise they had 1 booth available all the way in the corner at the back. Worked out for me because my son was
C-R-A-N-K-Y. We sat waiting for our waitress. Then all of a sudden this lady with the 2016 head piece came at us with the most contagious smile and introduced herself to us. She took our order and left. My daughter then leaned over and whispered " I really like her mom she is so happy" I didn't think anything of it and just smiled. At the end of the meal she came over and thanked us and looked at my daughter and said "the next time you come in here you make sure you ask for Jillian and if you can't remember Jillian call me Jill and if you can't remember that then just say the girl who is always smiling they will know it's me" she proceeded to say " do you want to know why I am always smiling?" She turns around and points to a group of people behind her and said "because of them that's my family, look at them don't I have a right to smile everyday...I'm truly lucky." That moment right there, that moment changed it all for me. Because I didnt need anyone to point out how blessed I am...I already know. But she was truly happy and I realized I used to be like that when I looked or talked about my husband and my kids...my eyes would brighten just like that and I missed it, I missed being that happy. I let my all the challenges in 2015 get to me and I kinda lost who I was. I looked at my daughter and looked at you and you changed it for me.

So Jillian...from the bottom of my heart...THANK YOU. You taught me a valuable lesson that night....Just Be Happy. That's it.

I hope this reaches you...I really do because I could have told you that night but I was too choked up to talk. Happy New Year and I hope you always stay that happy.
